CAIRO - 17 January 2022: The Health Ministry said on Sunday that 1,197 new coronavirus infections were detected, upping the total number of confirmed cases reported in Egypt since the beginning of the outbreak to 400,076.

In a statement, Spokesman for the Health Ministry Hossam Abdel Ghaffar said 25 patients have died from the virus over the past 24 hours, raising the death toll to 22,148.

As many as 998 patients were discharged from isolation hospitals after receiving necessary medical care, taking the number of recovered cases to 333,529 so far, the spokesman said.

Egypt received 3 million doses of Pfizer Coronavirus vaccine, provided by the US, through COVAX in cooperation with GAVI Alliance (formerly the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunisation), said Egyptian Health Ministry Spokesperson Hossam Abdel Ghaffar in a statement on Sunday.

This comes within Egypt’s plan to diversify and expand the provision of anti-Coronavirus vaccines, in order to preserve the state's gains in addressing the pandemic.

Egypt received, three days ago, a shipment of one million doses of  AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine from Argentina on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
