Our discussions with IMF were serious, honest and they did not impose anything on us: Sisi

CAIRO – 12 January 2022:  President Abdel Fattah al Sisi said Wednesday in the ‘Development Partners’ Session as part of the World Youth Forum that Egypt took the lead in participating and cooperating with various world organizations.

He noted to the economic reform program that was implemented in Egypt in 2016, saying that negotiations with IMF were ‘very serious and honest’.

“When we started the economic reform program we talked to IMF and were ‘very serious’ about it because we knew that IMF have the capability help us to succeed if we truly committed” President Sisi said.

He added that ‘Egyptians were able to withstand the rigors of the economic reform program and never complained even when the pandemic surprised everyone’.

“Because we complied with our agreement with the IMF regarding the economic reform program, the results were very positive”, Sisi said

The president noted that the economic reform program was never easy to apply in Egypt, however “all hands were needed to overcome economic challenges”

He also noted that “IMF was very understanding to Egypt's economic conditions while negotiation our economic reform program, and never impose anything.”

Sisi said that the government will not allow corruption in any way and will only give the ‘honorable and loyal’ people a chance to help developing the country.

President Sisi answered several questions during the session regarding climate change, women empowerment, illegal immigration and the country’s economic priorities during the coming period.

“I am very biased towards women in appreciation and respect for their capabilities” President  Sisi said.

He added: “when I urged Egyptians to withstand the rigors of the economic reform program, I was keen to address ‘the Egyption women’ in the first place”.

He also noted that the Egyption government does not discriminate against women neither in providing job opportunities nor in salaries.

Sisi also described ‘Haya Karima’ s a development project that aims to radically change the lives of more than 60 million Egyptians for the better.

On climate change, Sisi said he believes that the whole world is going in the direction of ‘getting things right’ because the whole world feels responsible for it.

Regarding the fields of energy and economics, Sisi noted that the government is working on making Egypt an energy hup and supply other countries with it.

“Egypt will focus on three areas during the coming period: agriculture, technology-intensive industries, and ICT as we aim to achieve greater progress in it” Sisi said replying to the session’s participants questions.

He also noted that within two years, Egypt will include two million feddans in agriculture.
