CAIRO – 5 January 2022: Chairman of the Civil Development Fund Khaled Sediq revealed in a phone-in Tuesday that the Hussein area in Old Cairo will be renovated soon.

The official said that negotiations are underway with a number of residents and workshop owners, because some buildings will have to be evacuated as they would be vulnerable to collapse, if not rehabilitated properly.

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi directed the government in December to completely develop all shrines of Ahl al-Bayt (the family of Prophet Muhammad) with its internal halls and their architectural decorations, “in harmony with the historical and spiritual nature of these shrines.”

The shrines include major mosques of Sayyeda Nafisa, Sayyeda Zaynab, and Al Hussein.

The president also directed to develop the utilities and facilities of the areas housing those shrines, including roads, squares and entrances leading to them.
