CAIRO – 4 January 2022: Deputy Minister of Education and Technical Education Mohamed Megahed stated in a phone-in Tuesday that less than 10 percent of the 40,000 candidates, who applied to join applied technology schools, got admitted.

Egypt currently has 28 applied technology schools, which are located in Cairo, Giza, Qalyoubeya, Alexandria, Port Said, Suez, and three other governorates in Upper Egypt.

Those have been recently introduced, offering modern technical education and setting the maximum number of students per classroom at 25.

In another context, Egypt plans to establish six technology universities, which are located in the cities of East Port Said, 6th of October, Borg El-Arab, New Luxor-Taiba, Assiut, and Sammanoud.

There are already three technology universities, which were established in New Cairo, Quesna, and Beni Suef and began operation. Also, three new public universities have been opened in Luxor, New Valley and Matrouh.

The Ministry of Education and Technical Education targets to introduce 10 applied technology schools annually so that the total number of such schools becomes 100 by 2030, Megahed told press in November 2019, when the country had just 11 of those schools.
