CAIRO-  2 January 2022:  Dr Jihan Al-Assal, Vice-President of the Scientific Committee to Combat Coronavirus said that Egypt did not suffer the fifth wave of the Coronavirus pandemic yet, saying “It is not possible to talk about the fifth wave currently.”

 

In a phone call to the “Hadrat Al-citizen” T.V. program, on Al-Hadath Al-Youm satellite channel, She affirmed that Egypt is still in the fourth wave of the pandemic.

 

Assal continued that infection cases are in increase worldwide, however, the death rates are declining, saying “this is a silver lining.”

 

The country is currently struggling with the fourth wave of the pandemic, reporting so far a total of 386,358 cases and 21,768 deaths, according to the latest official count on Saturday, since the pandemic started in Egypt in March last year.

 

By the end of 2021, Egypt has administered a total of 55,662,624 million doses of the coronavirus vaccines, according to Acting Health Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar on Wednesday.

 

Egypt has received on Saturday an additional 1.5 million doses of Pfizer vaccine from the United States, announced the US embassy in Cairo in a statement on Twitter.

 

“We welcome the arrival of an additional 1.5 million doses of Pfizer vaccine to Cairo today!  With today’s delivery, the United States has now provided over 16 million doses of Coronavirus vaccines to Egypt” US Chargé d’Affaires, Nicole Shampaine said.

 

Egypt received on Thursday morning a shipment of 347,460 doses of AstraZeneca coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccine, said the Egyptian Acting Minister of Health Khaled Abdel-Ghaffar in a statement on Thursday. The shipment, which arrived at the Cairo International Airport, was delivered via the COVAX Facility. 

 

In comments to Youm7 newspaper, the Ministry’s Spokesperson Houssam Abdel-Ghaffar said that Egypt would receive 6 million doses of AstraZeneca vaccine on January 5.
