CAIRO - 30 December 2021: Pope Tawadros II of Alexandria and Patriarch of St. Mark Diocese will lead the New Year's Mass on Friday at the Saint Mark's Coptic Orthodox Cathedral in Alexandria, announced the Cathedral in a statement on Thursday.
 
He didn’t attend last year's mass in Alexandria due to the coronavirus pandemic and headed the mass at the monastery of St. Anba Bishoy in Wadi El Natroun.
 
The Pope would also lead the Christmas Mass for the Coptic Christians on January 7, 2022, the statement said.
 
On August 26, 2021, Pope Tawadros II inaugurated the Cathedral of St. Macarius at his monastery in Wadi El-Natrun.
 
On  July 26, 2021, Egypt's cabinet headed by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli announced legalizing the status of 76 churches and service buildings, bringing the total number of churches and affiliated buildings that have so far been licensed by the committee to 1,958.
