CAIRO – 29 December 2021: Spokesperson of the Ministry of Irrigation and Water Resources Mohamed al-Qersh stated in a phone-in Wednesday that drip irrigation has been introduced in one million out of targeted five million feddans (one feddan equals 4,500 square meters) replacing surface irrigation.

The substitution is carried out at the expense of farmers, who can pay the cost over installments with zero interest. The official pointed out that the profit of margin of the harvests is much bigger than the value of the installments.

To save water, the ministry had also finished the lining of 9,393 kilometers of canals across 20 governorates by May within the first phase, which will end on June 20, 2022.
