CAIRO – 21 December 2021: Spokesperson for Egyptian Foreign Ministry Ahmed Hafez said that “it is in appropriate to comment or touch on Egyptian court rulings,” in response to a question about statements made by US State Department saying U.S. is disappointed by an Egyptian court’s sentencing.

In his comments to MENA journalist’s question, Ambassador Ahmed Hafez stated “it is inappropriate to comment or refer to rulings issued by the Egyptian judiciary in implementation of laws and on the basis of irrefutable and conclusive evidence within the framework of a fair, impartial and independent judicial process.

“It is impermissible and unjustified to address such judicial issues within any political framework or link them to relations between the two countries," he added.

On Monday, State Department spokesperson Ned Price said the United States is "disappointed" by an Egyptian court's sentencing of Activist Alaa Abdel Fattah to five years in prison, after he was tried on charges of spreading fake news.
