Wave of bad weather hits Egypt’s cities, schools suspended

CAIRO – 20 December 2021: Cairo, Giza, Damietta and other governorates authorities decided to suspend study at all schools on Monday due to bad weather wave that hit the country.

Cairo Governor Khaled Abdel Aal directed the local authorities to follow up on the situation in all streets, bridges, and tunnels to facilitate the traffic.

The governor of Giza and Damietta took similar decisions.

Serval ports including Alexandria and Dekheila are announced to be closed due to bad weather prompted by high waves and strong wind velocity.

Kafr el Sheikh Governor Gamal Nour el Din decided to keep Burullus fishing port closed for the second consecutive day due to strong winds and high waves.

Boats were denied entry and exit to and from the port, he added.

The northern Red Sea cities of Ras Ghareb, Hurghada and Safaga have faced dust storms, strong winds, low temperatures and high waves.

In Sharqia Governorate, authorities announced the state of emergency to withdraw rainwater that gathered in the streets.

Rainwater suction and sweeping vehicles and equipment have been deployed in various centers and cities of the governorate, to withdraw and sweep rainwater and remove its traces from streets and public squares.

Authorities have been working to open the way for citizens and cars, after a wave of bad weather and heavy rain.

Winter officially to begin in Egypt Tuesday, which was preceded with two days of bad weather in most of Egypt's governorates and led to the suspension of studies in 10 governorates.
