CAIRO – 16 December 2021: No child deaths of Covid-19 have been recorded in Egypt thus far, spokesperson of the Health Ministry Hossam Abdel Ghaffar told Nahar T.V. on Tuesday.

He said children of various age groups may contract covid-19, but their symptoms are less severe than in adults, or they may be asymptomatic. He added that child deaths of the disease around the world may be accompanied by other chronic diseases.

The spokesperson said a child with Covid should be quarantined at home, unless the symptoms and fever are too high, then they should go to the nearest quarantine hospital. He added that repeated x-rays and examinations for children are not recommended and should only be done after consulting a doctor.

Abdel Gahffar also said the world favors quarantining and treatment at home except in severe cases. He also assured that all university hospitals in Egypt have quarantine sections, and every governorate has an entire hospital for Covid.

He added that some 82 percent of beds in quarantine hospitals are unoccupied.
