CAIRO – 8 December 2021: Canadian Ambassador to Cairo Louis Dumas and UNFP representative in Egypt Frederika Meijer spent 48 hours in Cairo to follow up on grass roots projects in cooperation with the government while also enjoying the local culture.

The pair, along with an accompanying delegation, visited al-Hussainat Youth Center in el-Tud city, where they were met with a folkloric reception of tahtib dance, where two people dance with wooden sticks, and mizmar, a traditional music wind instrument, as well as dancing horses.

The Canadian and UNFPA delegations also watched plays and choirs that tackle problems in the community. For his part, Dumas applauded the recent dazzling inauguration of the Avenue of the Sphinxes, and said he looked forward to more project in partnership with the ministries of health, youth, and trade.  

Dumas and Meijer amde sure they participated in tahtib and admired the projects and activities they saw.
