CAIRO – 10 July 2017: The Muslim Brotherhood described in a Sunday statement the terrorists killed during an attempt to attack several checkpoints in North Sinai as “civilians”, revealing their ugly truth as a key supporter of ISIS.

Following the North Sinai attack, Talaat Fahmy, the media spokesperson of the Muslim Brotherhood, issued a statement in which he said that the group is innocent of Egyptian blood, claiming that they don’t have any relations with other extremist violent groups.

The statement came after militant groups “Hasm” and “Liwa Al-Thawra” have publicly announced their affiliation with the Brotherhood. “Hasm” also claimed their responsibility for a terrorist attack that targeted police officers at Almehwar and admitted to killing a police officer in Qalyubia.

The Brotherhood statement came full of contradictory meanings, as they defended ISIS militants but claimed that they don’t have any links with militant groups.

Earlier, Brotherhood supporter and New York-based activist Ayat Orabi wrote a post on Facebook in which she supported the terror groups ignobility.

The Brotherhood's statement also coincided with the incitement campaigns launched against Egypt’s government recently and their encouragement to movements that adopt violence against state institutions.

Commenting on the statement, Hisham al-Najjar, a researcher of Islamic movements, said those who stand with terrorism against Egypt’s government, military and police should be called “traitors”.

Al-Najjar also referred to the Brotherhood’s statement supporting ISIS as a message to militant groups to continue their terror attacks.

The Brotherhood was outlawed in 2013 after the military ousted one of its leaders, Mohamed Mursi, from the presidency following mass protests. It maintains that it is a peaceful organization.
