Spanish, Egyptian PMs discuss economic cooperation, Mediterranean stability

CAIRO – 1 December 2021: Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli received Tuesday his Spanish counterpart Pedro Sanchez, who is holding a two-day visit to Cairo.

 

Both prime ministers conferred over ways of pushing forward bilateral relations, particularly in the economic sector, and reinforcing the role of Spain as stability actor in the Mediterranean.  

 

Egypt's exports to Spain increased 69.1% to record €450.7 million in the first half of 2021 compared to €266.4 million during the same period in 2020, according a report on the Egyptian exports' performance received by Trade and Industry Minister Nevine Gamea from the Egyptian trade office in Madrid.


In a statement in October, Ahmed Nasr, head of the trade office in Madrid, said the Egyptian exports in the first half of 2021 were topped by cast iron and iron and steel with an increase of 472.4% at a value of €145.3 million, compared to €25.3 in the first half of 2020.

 

Plastics and articles thereof came in the second place, recording €49.1 million compared to €32.5 million (+50.9%) followed by crochet clothes (€32 million) (+%84.1) and fruit exports (€24.9 million), Nasr added.
