FM Shoukry discuss enhancing bilateral ties with Spanish counterpart in Barcelona

CAIRO – 29 November 2021: Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry met on Monday with his Spanish counterpart José Manuel Albares in Barcelona as both officials discussed means of enhancing bilateral ties especially in the fields of renewable energy, tourism, transport and health along with means of combating climate change.

Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ambassador Ahmed Hafez said the two ministers discussed ways of increasing joint investments as well as a set of regional issues of common interest.

“FM Sameh Shoukry meets with Spanish FM José Manuel Albares to discuss promoting bilateral relations especially in renewable energy, combating climate change, transport, health, tourism and increasing investments, as well as discussing issues of common concern.” Hafez tweeted, Monday.

 

Shoukry is currently visiting Barcelona to take part in the sixth regional forum of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) and the third of ministerial meeting of the European Union with the Southern Neighboring Countries

 

The event comes in the framework of celebrations marking the first Day of the Mediterranean.

The forum will gather in Barcelona the foreign ministers of the 42 UfM Member States with the aim to discuss ways to boost Euro-Mediterranean cooperation, development and integration, said UfM Secretary General Nasser Kamel in statements Sunday.

 

Top diplomats and ministers of state are expected to take part in this forum – the first to be held in person since the Covid-19 pandemic - Kamel noted.

 

The forum will also tackle regional developments and crises, in addition to the UfM Roadmap adopted in 2017.

It will be chaired by the UfM Co-Presidency, assumed by the High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission, Josep Borrell, and by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Ayman Safadi
