Egypt's Damietta Port prepares for increase in liquefied gas carriers

CAIRO – 28 November 2021: After Damietta Liquefaction Plant had resumed operation early in 2021, Egypt has been expanding Damietta Port by introducing two terminals among other measures.   

Three new tugboats joined the port's fleet Sunday with each having a pull capacity of 60 tons, length of 35 meters, width of 11.5 meters, and draft of 5.3 meters. Those were named Hedaya, Soliman, and Saleh.

The terminal dubbed "Long Live Egypt 1" spans over 910,000 square meters with a capacity of four million containers per annum. It has quays stretching over 1,970 meters, and whose depth is 18 meters.

As for Terminal Long Live Egypt 2, its quays extend over 3,320 meters having a depth of 17 meters. The surface area of the terminal's yard is one million square meters with an annual capacity of 24 million tons.   

Further, a new quay is being constructed to have a length of 700 meters and a yard of 270,000 square meters.

With regard to projects aimed at safeguarding the port, a new mole is being constructed on the western side with a length of 3,600 meters, while 1,565 meters are being added to the eastern mole.
