CAIRO – 20 October 2021: President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi pays a great deal of attention to supporting Egypt’s African brothers in all fields, Minister of Health Hala Zayed said Monday in Uganda.

The Egyptian minister participated in the inauguration of AFRI Egypt medical center in Jinja, a town east of the country. On Tuesday, the Egyptian Drug Authority inaugurated the drug center Nile Valley Penta at the Egyptian-African Medical Center in the same town.

Zayed said that health cooperation between Egypt and other African nations has prospered since Egypt presided the African Union in 2019, adding that Cairo provided support and aid to 22 African countries to counter Covid-19.

AFRI-Egypt Medical Center includes an osteoporosis unit equipped with a DEXA Scan, the first device in Uganda to detect osteoporosis. It also includes eight clinics of different specialties, such as a clinic for women’s health equipped with a mammogram for the early detection of breast cancer, cardiology, HIV, pediatrics, and others.

AFRI-Egypt also has a lab and radiology center, while Nile Valley Penta drug center already began receiving patients in September. The Egyptian Company Wadi El Nile Penta established the center as part of a plan to establish a group of pharmacies and medical centers in Africa.

For her part, Zayed said the inaugurations are only a prelude to the fruits of the strong ties between Egypt and Uganda at the level of healthcare. Ambulances and mobile clinics will also be provided to Uganda soon, and scholarships for 20 Ugandan doctors will be offered.
