CAIRO – 16 October 2021: Naguib Sawiris, business tycoon and one of Gouna Film Festival (GFF) investors, said he “feel bad” for people who criticize GFF and claim it is just a “show for dresses.”

Sawiris told ON T.V. channel on Friday that he feels bad for them because “they are living in the Middle Ages and neither want to see beauty nor to advance.”

“I am a tease. Whenever we advance and show the world our creativity, culture, and freedom, they fidget. Their jealousy will kill them,” said Sawiris, who is known for controversial statements and tweets.

GFF began in 2017 with social media users circulating pictures of celebrities on the red carpet to admire or criticize their outfits. However, some people also comment on how revealing the dresses are, rather than their taste, and attack GFF from a religious angle.

Much like other film festivals, GFF organizes workshops and seminars and presents awards.

It is worth noting that the Middle Ages in the Middle East were a prosperous era that witnessed a lot of innovation, knowledge, and advancement.
