CAIRO- 3 October 2021: Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry headed on Sunday for Moscow, at the invitation of his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov, as part of their mutual visits, said Egyptian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Ahmed Hafez in a statement.

Both Ministers will hold political consultations to discuss means to enhance bilateral cooperation in light of the close and diverse ties binding the two friendly countries, in addition to exchanging views regarding regional and international issues of mutual concern, he added.

Minister Shoukry is also scheduled to meet with the Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, Nikolai Patrushev, in the framework of continued consultations with the Russian side on the main files of joint cooperation and coordination between Egypt and Russia during the coming period, said Hafez.

Sergey Lavrov visited Egypt in April 2021 and held discussions with Shoukry on the updates in the MENA region including updates in Palestine, Lebanon, Syria and Libya.

They also discussed posting cooperation and relations between Cairo and Moscow, as they discussed the latest developments on the Ethiopian Renaissance Dam.

Commenting on the GERD issue, Lavrov said his country supports any settlement deal, which is taken in coordination between all the parties concerned as long as it guarantees the legitimate interests of the three countries.
