CAIRO – 1 October 2021: A virtual high-level meeting on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly on Sudan was attended Thursday by Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, where he said the video conference was a chance for international partners to support Sudan during the transitional phase.

The meeting was also attended by Abdallla Hamdok, prime minister of Sudan, UN Secretary-General António Guterres, and a group of ministers from countries friendly to Sudan.

Shoukry urged support for Sudan against all the challenges it faces during the transition, according to a Foreign Ministry statement.

He also emphasized Egypt’s commitment to back its southern neighbor as its stability and security are an integral part of those of Eastern Africa. Shoukry added that Egypt trusts the different Sudanese parties to continue to adopt a responsible approach to overcome political obstacles through dialogue.

The Egyptian minister also praised the economic reforms that the Sudanese government embarked on, calling on the international community to support the efforts of economic development in Sudan and to support Juba Agreement for Peace.
