Egyptian-made Sinovac anti-COVID-19 vaccine accredited by 12 European countries

CAIRO – 23 September 2021: Minister of Health and Population Hala Zayed stated Thursday that Egyptian-made Sinovac anti-COVID-19 vaccine has been accredited by 12 European countries.

 

The minister added that Egypt had recently received raw material sufficient to produce 15 million doses affirming that by the end of December, Egypt would have produced 80 million doses.

 

Further, Zayed said that negotiations are underway with Germany to acquire Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine.

 

Speaking of the fourth wave in Egypt, the minister noted that the peak will happen during the 3-4 coming years. She added that deaths during the current wave are less compared to the previous ones because of vaccination.

 

Minister Zayed's statements were made during a press conference with the German ambassador, after receiving 1.5 million AstraZeneca doses from Germany. As such, the total number of doses given by Germany to Egypt over the past two days is 2.3 million.

 

The minister also thanked the United Kingdom for supporting Egypt with 300,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine in the past two weeks.

 

Minister Zayed indicated that she would head to Germany soon to sign contracts to purchase 1,000 Mercedes Benz ambulances and 1,000 mobile clinics.

 

The minister concluded by pointing out that the vaccination of 3.2 million employees is about to finish as well as that of 1.6 million school teachers. Now, the ministry is preparing to vaccinate students aged above 18 given that the academic year will begin on October 9.
