CAIRO - 22 Septemebr 2020: A total of 850,560 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine offered by Germany arrived in Cairo on Tuesday as a contribution to the on-going COVID-19 vaccination campaign in Egypt.

The shipment was organized via COVAX, in cooperation with the Egyptian health ministry, the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), and the World Health Organization.

In a statement released by the German embassy in Cairo today, German Ambassador Frank Hartmann stressed that "no country can overcome this challenge alone."

He also emphasized that vaccinations are vitally important as a principal way "not only to protect ourselves and others from the viral infection, but also to prevent the emergence of new Covid-19 variants."
