CAIRO – 22 September 2021: Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi congratulated on Wednesday Froyla Tzalam, governor-general of Belize, on the occasion of the Central American country’s Independence Day.

This was reported by the state’s news agency MENA and further details have not yet been revealed.

Belize, located on the northereastern coast of Central America, is a Caribbean country that is bordered by Mexico, the Caribbean Sea, and Guatemala.

Belize had been a British colony between 1840 and 1862 and then a Crown colony since 1862 until it achieved its independence from the United Kingdom on 21 September 1981.

Its name under the colony was British Honduras.
