CAIRO – 17 September 2021: UK’s Transport Secretary announced, Friday that Egypt among other eight countries would be taken off the red list starting October 4th.

Lifting Egypt of the red list means that travelers will no longer have to stay in hotel quarantine, and PCR tests will no longer be required for fully vaccinated travelers returning to England.

UK’s Transport Secretary Grant Shapps said that the purpose of the travel update is to make it easier to travel without the bureaucracy, without so many tests, and with a greater level of certainty now that we've got so many people vaccinated.

“we’re making testing easier for travel, From Mon 4 Oct, if you’re fully vax you won’t need a pre-departure test before arrival into England from a non-red country and from later in Oct, will be able to replace the day 2 PCR test with a cheaper lateral flow.” Shapps wrote on twitter.

Along with Egypt, the UK announced removing Pakistan, the Maldives, Turkey, Sri Lanka, Oman, Bangladesh and Kenya from its Red List.

Presidential Health Adviser Mohamed Awad Tag El-Din said on Thursday that Egypt has allocated $191 million to secure the coronavirus vaccine doses for citizens.

In remarks to media, Tag El-Din said Egypt works to secure the largest possible number of vaccine doses to the Egyptian people.

Tag El-Din said the budget of the Health Ministry is open amid the pandemic.

Health Minister Hala Zayed said earlier this week that Egypt has produced five million doses of coronavirus vaccine, 2.5 million of which will be available later this week.

She said two million vaccine doses will be available next week, as she took part in a Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly.

Zayed said the Health Ministry is preparing for a new production line at Giza factory that will start production on November 1 this year, as it is expected to produce 300,000 doses daily.

While Higher Education Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar reviewed the latest developments as regards the vaccination of employees, students and professors of universities in 290 centers at 60 universities.

He noted that 304,432 doses were provided in the national campaign to vaccinate staffers in the higher education field and students over 18 years of age.

Egypt recorded on Thursday 569 coronavirus infections, and 13 deaths as well as 477 recoveries at isolation hospitals.

As such, the total figures became 295,051 infections, 16,921 deaths, and 248,425 recoveries.
