CAIRO – 15 September 2021: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi received Wednesday Speaker of the Iraqi House of Representatives Mohamed al-Halbousy whereas he asserted Egypt's full support to Iraq in all fields so it would reinstate its Arab and regional status.

The president also stressed the salience of parliamentary elections in drawing the features of the future of Iraq and strengthening its national institutions.

It is noted that Iraqi parliamentary elections are scheduled for October 10 as the current house – elected in 2018 – is concluding its term. Candidates would be competing over 328 seats.

Further, President Sisi underscored Egypt's rejection to all foreign intervention in Iraq's internal affairs, and commitment to the mutual respect of sovereignty among states.

The meeting was also attended by Halbousy's Egyptian counterpart Hanafi al-Gebaly, and Iraq's Ambassador to Iraq Ahmed al-Deleimy.
