CAIRO - 7 September 2020: President Abdel Fattah El Sisi on Tuesday inspected the historic hall at Alexandria Port.

During the tour, Sisi listened to a detailed explanation about the establishment of the port since it was under the command of Alexander the Great in 331 BC as part of the construction of Alexandria city.

The president was also briefed on latest construction and development works at the harbor.

The president asserted that all development works and adopted policies in the implementation of projects aimed at achieving real development and providing job opportunities in order to restore Egypt's place on the trade map in both the Red Sea and the Mediterranean.

The government has been assigned with the development of ports such as Alexandria, Damietta and Ain Sokhna to be ready for investors to present good offers for their operation, Sisi explained, adding that the government will then have to choose the best offers.

Speaking during a visit to Alexandria Port to check on work progress, Sisi noted that the state intervenes to solve all problems related to mega projects and its expansion such as the state's expropriation of property and compensation for citizens, noting that such intervention helped in finalizing any project according to a set schedule. Such policy is different from what had been done over many years when the state was asking investors to be involved in the development projects.

The president demanded a good compensation for citizens whose homes will be evacuated to develop the back shipyards of Alexandria Port.

Addressing the minister of transport, Sisi said the plan to remove such homes was part of the port's security and that is why they have to be removed.
