CAIRO – 26 August 2021: Sources told Youm7 that Egyptian authorities intensified their communication with Israeli counterparts and Palestinian factions in Gaza over the past two days to alleviate the suffering of the strip's residents.

On Wednesday, Egypt reopened Rafah Crossing in the direction to Gaza allowing visiting Palestinians to return after its closure on Monday for technical reasons. The crossing will be open in both directions starting Sunday as it closes on weekends consisting of Fridays and Saturdays, and other official holidays.

Through the crossing, Egyptian authorities allow the passing of Palestinian injured and patients as well as humanitarian aid.

On August 18, General Intelligence Chief Abbas Kamel visited Tel Aviv and Ramallah to push forward the peace process.

Early in May, Egypt brokered a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas pledging $500 million for the reconstruction of Gaza.
