CAIRO – 2 August 2021: Minister of Irrigation and Water Resources Mohamed Abdel Aty received Monday a number of Dutch consultants to confer over a potential cooperation program to be funded through a grant by the Dutch government.

The minister briefed the consultants on the needed application studies and the proposed locations for the first phase. The prospective projects are within the Water Security Strategy 2017-2037.

The projects will be in the fields of canal rehabilitation; modern irrigation; water quality monitoring; integrated management of coastal areas; assessment and upgrade of underground water monitoring network; modeling intersection between seawater and fresh water; use of modern systems to model the management and distribution of  water; and delivery of training sessions for workers in the water resources sector.

During the meeting, the Dutch consultants presented their country's success in mitigating the impact of floods that hit Europe last month enduring the least possible losses.

It is noted that since the foundation of the Egyptian-Dutch Consulting Council 40 years ago, the exchange of experience between Egypt and the Netherlands has been ongoing in the sectors of planning and management of water resources.
