CAIRO – 1 August 2021: President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi discussed the latest development in the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) issue with Algerian Foreign Minister Ramtane Lamamra on Sunday.

Sisi emphasized Egypt’s “historical rights” to the Nile waters and maintaining its water security. He said all concerned parties should engage earnestly in negotiations with a real political will to reach a comprehensive and legally binding agreement on the rules of filling and operating GERD.

They also tackled means to maximize channels of communication regarding trade exchange and to increase the volume of inter-investment, as well as the political and security coordination and exchange of information in the fight against extremist ideology.

The two North African politicians also discussed Libya, emphasizing the importance of holding elections in September with no delay and the exit of all foreign forces and mercenaries.

They also expressed support for Tunisian President Kais Saied in his endeavors against corruption.
