CAIRO – 31 July 2021: A group of Tunisian national figures confirmed that the actions of Tunisian President Kais Saied came in response to the calls of many segments of the Tunisian people, especially the youth.

They urged countries and sisterly people to intensify their support to the efforts to correct the path of democratic transition in Tunisia and to stand by the choices of the Tunisian people toward achieving their aspiration.

The figures called for international support to the efforts to save Tunisian from the state of deterioration due to the poor governance and spread of corruption.

The Tunisian figures stressed in a joint statement their satisfaction and support for the decisions taken by Saied based on Article 80 of the Constitution, as an important turning point for correcting the path of democratic transition.

They called for establishing a participatory system that is based on consultation, dialogue and cooperation between all parties that believe in the civil national state and its modern gains, including organizations, associations, parties, thinkers and intellectuals.

This comes in an effort to ensure social peace within the framework of respect for the law and its enforcement and the protection of rights and freedoms.

Tunisian national figures called on all the powers in Tunisia, including political actors, organizations, civil society and youth to engage in making this corrective path a success and to interact with it positively so that state institutions restore their normal roles in the soonest possible time.

This should enable people to regain confidence in the future and achieve national economy recovery, they said.

Saied earlier this month froze the parliament, dismissed the permier and said he will temporarily rule by decree.

The Tunisian president also relieved the defense minister and acting justice minister from their posts.
