Sisi expressed Egypt’s appreciation of its firm relations with Lebanon on the official and popular levels, a statement by the Egyptian Presidency read on Wednesday.

The president hailed the principal role the national Lebanese army has carried out to protect the stability and balance in Lebanon, as national armies represent a “backbone that guarantees the cohesion and stability of the nations,” the statement read.

The Lebanese army commander conveyed the greetings of Lebanon President Michel Aoun to Sisi.

The commander stressed Lebanon’s keenness to enhance its firm historic relations gathering both countries, which are based on the basis of solidarity and brotherhood, the statement added.

Aoun also expressed the Lebanese appreciation of the Egyptian efforts to support Lebanon in all fields as an extension of the Egyptian pivotal role to preserve stability in the entire Arab region, according to the statement.

The meeting discussed ways to enhance the ongoing bilateral cooperation frameworks between the two countries and to benefit from the Egyptian experience in many fields, the statement added.

Minister of Defense Mohamed Zaki and Lebanese Ambassador to Cairo Aly Al-Halaby attended the meeting.

Sisi received in Cairo in mid-July Lebanon’s then-Prime Minister-designate Saad Al-Hariri, who stepped down a day later.

During the meeting, Sisi affirmed Egypt’s support to the political path aiming to restore stability in the country and tackle the current challenges, a presidential statement read.

Sisi, during the meeting, highlighted the need for concerted endeavors to settle any disputes in terms of the government formation efforts in order to get Lebanon out of the current state it is suffering from.

This comes through prioritizing Lebanon’s national interests in a way that preserves the resources of the Lebanese people and their national unity, the statement added.

Hariri, for his part, hailed Egypt’s sincere and tireless efforts to mobilize international support for Lebanon at all levels in light of the continuity of the hard challenges the Lebanese people are facing, especially at the political and economic levels, the statement read.
