CAIRO - 18 July 2020: A total of 140 Egyptian citizens stranded in Libya’s Tripoli were deported home on Sunday, said head of the Egyptian diplomatic mission in Tripoli ambassador Mohamed Tharwat Selim.

The deportees include 17 children under the age of 18, he said, adding that the Egyptian embassy completed their papers after diplomats visited them several times in scattered detention centers in Libya.

The deportees were medically check and subjected to the coronavirus tests before being sent back home, the ambassador said.

In June 2020, 23 Egyptian expats, who were held and humiliated by militias in Libya's Tarhunah, southeast of the capital Tripoli, returned to their homeland.
