CAIRO – 17 July 2021: Anyone will slaughter animals, as sacrifice during Eid al-Adha, on the streets, and leave waster and blood will be fined up to L.E. 10,000.

 

The announcement was made by Governor of Cairo Major General Khaled Abdel Aal on filing police reports against violators.   

 

Cairo governor also confirmed the opening of all governmental slaughterhouses in Cairo to facilitate the provision of free slaughter of animals to be sacrificed by people throughout the days of Eid al-Adha.

 

There will be regular inspection tours to ensure no slaughter carried out outside the slaughterhouses, in order to preserve the environment, the health of citizens and public hygiene, he added.

 

He further stressed the prohibition of setting up any displays of live slaughter on public roads, whether for citizens or butcher shops, in order not to impede traffic, stressing the speed of dealing firmly with violators and taking the necessary legal measures regarding the violation.

 

Major General Khaled Abdel-Al confirmed that the slaughterhouses affiliated with the governorate operate 24 hours a day during the Eid period.

 

Dr. Sabri Zeinhom, Director of the Directorate of Veterinary Medicine, confirmed that Law 281 of 94 and Law 53 of 66, which stipulates that in the case of slaughter for sale outside slaughterhouses, the penalty is imprisonment for one year and a fine of 10,000 pounds, and doubled in the case of a repeat violation.

 

As for the citizen who slaughters sacrificial animals in the streets or in front of houses, it is considered a violation of the Environmental Law 4 of 94, and the penalty may reach 10,000 pounds, according to the size of the violation and its environmental impact on the street.
