Egypt's FM confers with his Romanian counterpart on mutual cooperation, regional issues

CAIRO - 12 July 2020: Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry conferred on Monday with his Romanian counterpart Bogdan Aurescu in Brussels on means of pushing forward bilateral cooperation and regional issues of common interest, said Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Hafez on twitter.

Earlier in the day, Shoukry, currently on a visit to Brussels, discussed over a working breakfast with EU foreign ministers bilateral ties and exchanged views with them over a set of regional issues, said Hafez.

Talks covered files of bilateral cooperation, the Ethiopian dam and the peace process in Libya.

They also addressed the importance of boosting coordination regarding regional and international issues of common interest, especially upping the volume of trade and European investments in Egypt, added the spokesman.

During the gathering, Shoukry briefed the European side on the successful efforts made by Cairo to half the influx of migrants to European coasts since 2016, along with Cairo hosting around 6 million migrants and refugees.

The Egyptian foreign minister also discussed the Palestinian file and the necessity of pushing forward efforts to resume the peace process in order to reach a just and comprehensive settlement between the two sides. He also highlighted the efforts exerted by Egypt to reconstruct Gaza and extend assistance to all Palestinian territories in cooperation with the Palestinian Authority.

The Egyptian top diplomat also addressed the Syrian file, the latest developments in Libya ahead of holding national elections on December 24 as well as the necessity of bringing out all foreign troops and mercenaries from the war-torn country.

The EU foreign ministers, for their part, voiced appreciation for Egypt over its pivotal role in the region at all fronts with the aim of achieving security and regional stability
