CAIRO – 28 June 2021: The House of Representatives approved in principle Monday draft amendments to the non-disciplinary termination of public employees law no. 10/1973.

The draft amendments were articulated by MP Ali Badr, and submitted by him and 60 others. The draft bill is dubbed "the terrorist employee law" as it aims to dismiss public employees whose terrorist/extremist affiliations or tendencies have been proven without a court order. That is because public employees can only be fired through a court ruling.

If passed, the law will be applied on workers in the state's administrative bodies such as ministries, authorities, agencies, municipalities, public and public enterprise companies, and other bodies with special allocations.

The amendments also grant the discharged worker the right to resort to court to appeal the decision.
