‘Political conflicts inhibit natural gas circulation among African countries’: Egyptian parliamentarian

CAIRO - 12 June 2021: Chairman of the African Affairs Committee at Egypt’s House of Representatives Sherif El-Gabali pointed out Saturday in IPAs Africa Forum 1 that political conflicts inhibit exporting natural gas from certain African countries to fellow African states.

 
Gabali added that such problem should be tackled given that no development without energy.
 
Addressing the need for financing, Gabali suggested, “we need a mechanism to finance mega projects in Africa...Mining is an industry that requires great funding and gives rise to other industries.” Sharing the same point of view of other investors, the parliamentarian, a businessman himself, asserted the necessity of establishing a company that insures exports to Africa.
 
His other recommendations include promoting awareness among the countries of the continent on what each African state produces. He gave an example of African importers, who did not know that Egypt produces home appliances.
 
Gabali added, “To sell in Africa, you have to establish a logistics zones to display your products to African importers, who would not close deals relying on just reports and emails.” He further urged, “we have to work on a unified trade exchange mechanism.”
 
The parliamentarian states that the house is prioritizing boosting cooperation between Egypt and fellow African states in the sectors of aviation, and agriculture.
 

Africa IPAs Forum 1 kicked off in Egypt’s Sharm El Sheikh having as slogan “Growth for Integration.” The forum is the first of its kind and is taking place on June 11-14 with the participation of ministers and chairpersons of investment promotion authorities at 34 African countries.
