CAIRO – 12 June 2021: The National Council for Women (NCW) launched a door-to-door campaign in Red Sea city of Hurghada to raise awareness on the criminalization of female genital mutilation (FGM).

Lasting for three days, the campaign titled “Protect her from FGM,” and aims to education people about the legal stance and the procedures taken to deter violators and those who commit this crime.

Members of the National Council’s branch in the Red Sea, volunteers and trained rural pioneers participated in the campaign.

Nermin Abu Saree, rapporteur of the National Council for Women’s branch in the Red Sea, said that the door-to-door campaign is preceded by a set of activities and training for rural women leaders, NCW’s members in the Red Sea branch and volunteers to understand the campaign’s messages, in addition to a consultative meeting with the concerned authorities at the local level, which will be held at the end of the campaign, to adopt joint awareness and training activities to eliminate FGM.

The Red Sea rapporteur added that the various activities that take place during this campaign come within the framework of joint cooperation between the National Council for Women and the National Council for Motherhood and Childhood under the umbrella of the National Committee for the Elimination of Female Genital Mutilation.
