CAIRO – 6 June 2021: Egypt extended condolences Saturday to Burkina Faso over the death 132 civilians in a militant attack launched against a village in the northeastern part of the country infested with jihadists.

The government of Burkina Faso stated that the assailants also set homes and a market on fire, and that the number of the wounded amounts to 40, as reported by Reuters.

Terrorists affiliated to Al Qaeda and the Islamic State stepped up attacks in Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger since the beginning of the year. The damage endured by Burkina Faso alone because of terror attacks over the past two years is the displacement of 1.14 million citizens. It is noted that the country houses 20,000 Malian refugees.

Speaking of the Sahel region, the total number of victims of terrorism since January is almost 500. During that period, also a very large attack took place in March whereas a chain of raids against several villages in Niger was carried out.
