CAIRO – 16 May 2021: Egyptian Ambassador to Ramallah Tarek Tayel met on Sunday Palestinian Prime Minister Mohamed Ashteya delivering a solidarity message amid the Israeli aggression.

 

The Egyptian ambassador displayed the diligent efforts of Cairo in coordinating with various parties and the international community to achieve pacification and end Israeli attacks on Gaza Strip while inhibiting the reoccurrence of confrontations in Jerusalem and the West Bank.

 

Tayel also presented the Egyptian preparations on the governmental and civil levels to provide humanitarian support to Palestinians in Gaza Strip alleviating their suffering, as indicated in a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

 

The ambassador pointed out that the current crisis proves that the Palestinian Cause is the main issue in the Middle East. He asserted the urgency of a ceasefire followed by the instant involvement of the international community in brokering the resumption of serious peace talks aimed at achieving the two-state solution in accordance with the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions. The latest of which is Resolution No. 2334 issued in 2016 providing that Israel must stop building settlements on the Palestinians lands it occupied on June 5, 1967.  

 

On his side, the Palestinian Prime Minister commended the Egyptian efforts on all levels expressing appreciation for the government and people of Egypt for their unceasing backing to the Palestinian people.

 

Shelling and airstrikes by the Israeli army against Gaza Strip and clashes with civilians in the West Bank and Jerusalem since May 10 incurred 209 deaths and 4,363 injuries, according to Palestine News and Information Agency (WAFA).

 

Speaking of Gaza Strip alone, casualties recorded 188 deaths, including 55 children and 33 women, and 1,238 injuries whereas dozens are in critical conditions.

 

The strikes also caused the destruction of more than 200 residential units and 31 educational establishments, including schools, colleges, and vocational training centers so as hundreds of families fled from the North to the South.
