India buys 300K Covid-19 treatment “Remdesivir” doses from Egypt

CAIRO - 8 May 2020: The Indian embassy in Cairo will purchase, on behalf of the country’s Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, 300,000 doses of Covid-19 treatment “Remdesivir” from Egypt’s EVA Pharma.


The move comes in light of the current epidemiological situation and the spike in coronavirus cases in India, the embassy said in a press release Saturday.

Indian Ambassador in Cairo Shri Ajit Gupte and EVA Pharma CEO Riad Armanious are set to sign the deal on Monday at the premises of the Indian embassy.

India reported a record 414,188 new Covid-19 cases taking the total tally of confirmed coronavirus cases in the country to 21,491,598.


With more than 3,918 new deaths, India's Covid-19 death has reached 234,083, The Times of India quoted the Union health ministry data as saying.

This is the highest death toll reported by any country for a 10-day span. According to WHO, the highest cumulative deaths reported by the US for 10 consecutive days is 34,798 while the corresponding figure for Brazil is 32,692.
