CAIRO – 26 April 2021: Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shokry held a phone call Sunday with Jordanian counterpart Ayman al-Safdy to confer over the "dangerous developments" in Jerusalem, a press statement indicates.

Both ministers congrued on the necessity that Israel ceases aggression and provocative measures in order to end the state of contention and reinstate tranquility.

The Egyptian and Jordanian foreign ministers condemned violence and incitement committed by "extremist groups" against Palestinians in Eastern Jerusalem's Old City demanding the Israeli government to put an end to such violations. They also stressed the necessity of binding Israel to assume responsibility in accordance with international law and provide protection to Palestinians.

Shokry and Safady warned of the rise in the intensity of attacks and provocations against worshippers, and obstructing their access to the Aqsa Mosque. They noted that such acts have been on the rise since the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan urging the halt of those practices and violations that target the Arab, Islamic, and Christian identities of Jerusalem and its sacred sites, and that aim for changing the historical and legal status quo.

Both ministers asserted that the international community must play an effective role in the resumption of the peace process and serious negotiations aimed at achieving fair and comprehensive peace, and reaching the two-state solution in alignment with international legitimacy resolutions, and the Arab peace initiative.

The Egyptian and Jordanian foreign ministers also discussed bilateral relations in various fields as well as regional developments in the framework of continuous coordination and consultation between both states.
