CAIRO – 22 April 2021: As a representative of the African Group at the United Nations Economic and Social Council, Egypt was elected, by acclamation, to membership of the Commission on the Status of Women for 2022-2026 and membership of the executive board of UN Women for 2022-2025.

This election, which took place on April 20, 2021, comes to reaffirm Egypt’s great position and confidence at the international level due to its active role and the various initiatives it proposes and leads in various UN bodies, like the Commission on the Status of Women and the executive board of UN Women, said Egyptian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Ahmed Hafez in a statement on Thursday.

He added that the election comes in light of paying appreciation to Egypt’s role over the recent years in the field of women protection and empowerment politically, economically and socially.

He also continued that Egypt has taken comprehensive measures in this regard since the beginning the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, noting that in November 2020 the United Nation approved an Egyptian-drafted resolution calling for the protection of women rights from the repercussions of the coronavirus pandemic.
