CAIRO – 22 April 2021: Two exceptional visits have been granted to all inmates across Egypt on the occasion of the celebration of Sinai Liberation Day corresponding April 25th and Easter celebrations.

The two visits, per each prisoner, will be allowed at any time during the period from Monday April 26th until Monday, May 10th.

The Interior Ministry stressed that preventive measures will be adhered during the visits to avoid the spread of Coronavirus.

It was stated that the exceptional visit comes as part of the ministry’s keenness to uphold the values of human rights alongside the application of its penal policy and modern correctional system.

Egypt's prisons in all governorates have recently witnessed a development process that confirms their commitment to implementing international human rights standards in prisons.

Healthcare has also been developed in prisons with more medical beds and cells prepared for those with special needs.

On many national occassions throughout the year, hundreds of prisoners are pardoned. Many prisoners are granted a presidential pardon on occasion of Sinai Liberation this year.

According to the constitution, the president has the right to issue pardons for convicted prisoners after consulting with the Cabinet.
