Upper Egypt governorates record highest infection rates of COVID-19 3rd wave

CAIRO – 19 April 2021: Egypt’s Ministry of Health said that the increase of coronavirus cases still manageable and not high.

The ministry added that Egypt is still at the beginning of the third wave, and there are measures to push to reduce the cases while providing full support to the governorates in which the infection rates have recently increased.

The Ministry noted that Upper Egypt governorates have the highest infection rates; however, all means of support were given to hospitals and authorities to control the hike.

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli said Monday, that President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has instructed the government to help the medical sector to be always ready to deal with COVID-19 and provide additional appropriations needed for importing doses.

During a meeting Monday with members of the medical group in charge of dealing with the outbreak, the prime minister pointed out to an increase of infection rates, calling on all parties to be extra careful and strictly abide by precautionary measures to combat the pathogen

He praised the state efforts to provide COVID-19 vaccines and medical equipment to meet the needs of hospitals across the country.

Minister of Health Hala Zayed. who attended the meeting, said there is a sufficient stock of medical oxygen, pointing out that there are contacts with oxygen companies to increase production.

Minister Zayed referred to her meeting with the Russian ambassador in Cairo to discuss means of providing Egypt with the Russian Sputnik vaccines to deal with the virus.

She said that her meeting with the ambassador dealt with President Sisi's directives to manufacture COVID-19 vaccines locally.

Egypt recorded, Sunday 850 new coronavirus cases, upping the total number of confirmed cases since the outbreak in the country began to 216,334.

In a statement, Spokesman for the Health Ministry Khaled Megahed said 44 patients have died from the virus over the past 24 hours, raising the death toll to 12,738.

As many as 765 patients were discharged from isolation hospitals after receiving necessary medical care, taking the number of recovered cases to 163,479 so far, the spokesman said.
