Egypt reports 841 new coronavirus cases, 42 fatalities in 24 hours

CAIRO - 17 April 2020: The Health Ministry said Friday that 841 new coronavirus cases were detected, upping the total number of confirmed cases since the outbreak in the country began to 214,639.


In a statement, Spokesman for the Health Ministry Khaled Megahed said 42 patients have died from the virus over the past 24 hours, raising the death toll to 12,653.

As many as 700 patients were discharged from isolation hospitals after receiving necessary medical care, taking the number of recovered cases to 162,170 so far, the spokesman said.

Egypt’s Health Minister Hala Zayed said on 15 April, the country will receive until the end of May 4.5 million coronavirus vaccine doses through the COVID-19 Vaccines Global Access (COVAX),

In a meeting with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli, Zayed said Egypt has contracted with China’s Sinopharm to receive 20 million vaccine doses.

She added that half a million Sinopharm doses will arrive in Egypt soon.
