CAIRO – 30 March 2021: Egypt’s Health Minister Hala Zayed said Egypt is expected to receive 854,000 coronavirus vaccine doses starting Wednesday through COVID-19 Vaccines Global Access (COVAX) co-led by Vaccine Alliance (GAVI).

Egypt has so far obtained 650,000 doses of the Chinese Sinopharm vaccine.

It also received its first batch of the AstraZeneca vaccine (50,000 doses) last month.

Egypt is also expected to receive millions of the AstraZeneca vaccine in batches until May.

The country started its vaccination campaign in January, providing vaccine so far to thousands of medical workers, people suffering from chronic diseases and elderly.

Egypt has so far reported 200,739 coronavirus cases and 11,914 related deaths.
