New Delta is ‘unique’ project, aims to strengthen Egypt’s strategy in agricultural, urban expansion: Agriculture minister Advisor

CAIRO – 30 March 2021: Advisor to Egypt’s Minister of Agriculture Naeem Moselhy, revealed in statements, Tuesday the details of the new delta that President Abdel Fattah el Sisi directed to implement within the coming period.

He explained that the one-Million feddans project aims at accommodating the increase in population inside the Delta area especially from young graduates along with compensating for the loss of agricultural lands due to unjust construction.

He noted that the mega national project was supposed to take up to ten year to be completely finished; however, president Sisi directed that the project should be finished within two years.

He described the project to be ‘unique’ especially that it was designed to resemble the old known delta of Egypt.

Moselhy said that the new Delta is a huge achievement which aims to strength the state’s strategy in agricultural and urban expansion, achieving food security, and establishing new agricultural, urban and industrial societies.

The News Project will be relieving pressure on the delta area along with providing thousands of new job opportunities according to the minster’s advisor.

He said that the New Delta climate will be ‘Mediterranean climate’ which is suitable for all crops.

The project also aims at eliminating unemployment, increasing job opportunities along with achieving self-sufficient in many crops.

Last Sunday, President Abdel Fattah el Sisi directed the immediate launch of the New Delta project.

The President issued directives to the bodies concerned to merge the implementation phases into one stage and intensify the timetable, to promote the state’s strategy in the field of establishing new agricultural and urban communities characterized by modern administrative systems, including industrial complexes based on agricultural production, and providing thousands of new job opportunities, Presidential Spokesman Bassam Rady said in a statement

Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Al Sayed Al Qusair said in following statements that the national project of creating a new Delta spanning over a million feddans (one feddan is equal to 4,200 square meters) will be executed in two years.

The area will be cultivated with strategic crops like wheat, corn, and vegetables, the minister pointed out noting that laboratory and field studies have been finalized.

The minister had told press earlier that the cost of reclamation per feddan is LE200,000,
