“The Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) appreciated the announcement by […] Arab Republic of Egypt of its intention to join the lawsuit filed by the Republic of South Africa before the International Court of Justice in the case of genocide committed by the Zionist entity against our Palestinian people,” the movement announced in a statement on Sunday.
Hamas has confirmed the death of Nadav Popplewell, a British-Israeli captive who was taken by the group's fighters in October, after sustaining injuries in an Israeli airstrike.
He added: “Israel prevents the arrival of humanitarian aid to more than 2 million Palestinians, and endangers their lives and the lives of the wounded and sick by preventing their travel for treatment.”
Delegations of Hamas and Israel left Cairo, Thursday following a two-day round of negotiations.
Hamas official Osama Hamdan said, Tuesday that their approval of the Egyptian-Qatari proposal on a ceasefire agreement came after months of negotiations.
Egyptian high-level source affirmed that there is an agreement between all parties to return to Gaza ceasefire negotiating track.
“While the Hamas proposal is far from meeting Israel's core demands, Israel will dispatch a ranking delegation to Egypt in an effort to maximize the possibility of reaching an agreement on terms acceptable to Israel,” said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s Office.
He called on the Security Council, especially the United States and the Western countries that support Israel, to assume their responsibilities and curb the occupation force.
“I closely follow the positive developments pertinent to the ongoing negotiations to reach a comprehensive truce in the Gaza Strip. I call on all parties to exert more efforts to reach an agreement that will end the humanitarian tragedy from which the Palestinian people are suffering and finalize the exchange of hostages and prisoners,” said President Abdel Fattah El Sisi on his official Facebook page on Monday evening.
In a statement, the movement announced that Ismail Haniyeh, head of the Hamas political bureau, made a phone call with Egyptian Minister of Intelligence Abbas Kamel and Qatari Prime Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, informing them the Hamas' approval of the proposal regarding a ceasefire agreement.
The Egyptian security delegation is intensifying its contacts to contain the current escalation between Israel and Hamas, a high-level source said.
The movement stated on Sunday that the Cairo talks ended and the delegation will return to Doha for consultation with the leaders. It added that the Hamas delegation delivered the movement's response to the mediators in Egypt and Qatar, noting that in-depth and serious discussions took place with them.
The source added that the Egyptian security delegation reached a consensus formula on many points of disagreement.
A high-level source said, Monday that extensive discussions are being held between the Egyptian security delegation and Hamas delegation in Cairo, Monday.
A delegation from Hamas is scheduled to visit Cairo on Monday to deliver the movement's response to Egyptian and Qatari mediators regarding a recent ceasefire proposal in Gaza, along with a proposed prisoner swap deal.
